Rona Ngahuia Osborne was born in Auckland in 1974. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Elam School of Fine Arts. Rona grew up in Hokianga, in New Zealand’s far north and shares Irish, Welsh, Scottish, English and Maori bloodlines. It is this cultural mix and lack of clear identity that drives and defines much of Rona’s practice.
The interplay between art and craft has often been an aspect of Rona’s work. Between 1999 and 2004 Rona was a member of Indicator studios, an Auckland based artist’s collective. In 2003 Rona created the brand Native Agent as an outlet for her clothing and textile work. Native Agent now has a retail store in Kingsland, Auckland, and supplies several other stores around the country.
As an artist, she exhibits regularly in both group and solo shows.
Rona works in West Auckland, where she lives with her husband and two daughters.
